The Polaroid Funeral forms part of the 4th Deitch Art Parade in New York’s Soho district this weekend.
Following an announcement to discontinue Polaroid film, conceptual photographer Lynnette Astaire’s New Orleans inspired performance is a live adaptation of a recent self portrait session. Astaire’s debut in the art world as a performance artist is inspired by New Orleans jazz funeral traditions. Her influences include Mozart, 80’s icon Leigh Bowery, and Lil Wayne.
The annual event, which signifies the beginning of New York’s fall art season has previously featured work by Yoko Ono, Kenny Scharf and The Scissor Sisters, just to name a few. The Art Parade opens Saturday September 6, 2008 at 4pm on West Broadway in Manhattan.
