LA’s Thinkspace Gallery has some interesting plans for the summer, headed up by ‘Beneath the Seams,’ a solo exhibit from excellent Toronto-via-Hamilton artist Sarah Joncas. Her work is undeniably influenced by cinema, most notably Film Noir. And that’s not an understatment: you’ll see plenty of nods to everything hardboiled in her work, and her paintings and sketches are engulfed in shadow, filled with wispy cigarette smoke, and, of course, prominently feature a femme fatale. With 18 new oil on paint and graphite on paper pieces on display, as well as a special installation at the gallery, the exhibit promises to be her loftiest to date. The exhibit runs from March 12th to July 3rd.
