RIP: A Remix Manifesto, an open source documentary, explores issues of copyright in the information age, mashing up the media landscape of the 20th century and shattering the wall between users and producers. The film uses mash-up artist Girl Talk as a backdrop to present his case. After presenting the remixer’s manifesto, it later goes on to demonstrate how the current laws are actually the diabolical brain child of a seemingly happy-go-lucky little mouse by the name of…. Ok, we don’t have to name names, but DO visit the website and find out how you can remix select chunks of film and create your own video mash-ups which will be used in the RIP sequel. Also featured in the film are Cory Doctorow co-founder of boingboing.net, copyright activist Lawrence Lessig, Brazilian minister of culture Gil Gilberto and others. The full film will be in theaters in March, and subsequently available for free viewing on the net, here.
