Though JonOne started out humbly enough painting walls and trains in Harlem, it’s not hyperbole to say that he’s evolved as an artist. Keeping his original vision intact (not to mention his uncanny improvisational abilities), his abstract painting has developed into a genre all its own, resembling, at times, modern stained glass. And based on his international notoriety, it’s no surprise that he was selected for the inauguration of Shanghai’s 18Gallery. Launching this Thursday, his work will be displayed in their gallery space alongside music from DJ Bobby, live performance art from Chao Chi, and, of course, plenty of drinks to smooth over the cracks.
