Michigan based artist Jesse Rubenfeld has recreated famous artistic images in his ‘Parody Paintings’ series, doing so with the added slant of incorporating modern icons into their historical context. The images, which span centuries old artworks to contemporary album covers, take on a playful and thought provoking aspect with the introduction of characters ranging from Sesame St., to the stars of Nintendo games. Skillfully rendered and executed, Rubenfeld’s paintings may not usurp the originals they borrow from, but they do inject a welcome sense of humor.
