AesÂthetic InspiÂraÂtion Archive of InvaÂsionÂism preÂsented by David Gensler for the 2011 Relaunch of SVSV.
As we travel and explore the world and life, often as we (DesignÂers and Artists) attempt to affect, we are affected. As we attempt to change, we are changed, as we attempt to invade, we are invaded.
INVASIONISM is a theÂory of the dual effect the act of creÂation has on both the audiÂence and the creÂator. The act of artisÂtic creÂation acutely impacts an audiÂence, both intended and secÂondary, often chalÂlengÂing conÂvenÂtions and rewritÂing social mores and memes (or someÂtimes valÂiÂdatÂing them).
SimÂply put, as artisÂtic creÂation impacts the world, the world’s reacÂtion to it, equally impacts the artists/designer. UltiÂmately, InvaÂsionÂism is an exchange of energy that knowÂingly and unknowÂingly “INVADES†both creÂator and audiÂence alike.
This effect hapÂpens most often in real world expeÂriÂences, more so than the digÂiÂtal realm. As an examÂple, a Designer lookÂing to find inspiÂraÂtion from a forÂeign culÂture is often more affected by the observed culÂture than the culÂture is by the designer. Rarely does the designer or artists have the conÂtrol they believe they command.
“As I attempt to change or influÂence the world through my designs and ideas, ultiÂmately the world truly changes me.†– David Gensler, Founder of THE KEYSTONE DESIGN UNION & SVSV.
