Kang S. Lee is a ceramic artist and designer living and working in Mexico City. Using traditional ceramic production techniques Lee casts likenesses of his own high-top Nike Dunks as a way of commenting on the cultural, artistic, and commercial position of sneakers.
On his flickr page, he makes the point that sneakers have moved from being athletic equipment to become a part of pop-culture, high and low fashion, and art. His work appropriates the form of the Nike Dunk and makes it something precious, timeless, and reminiscent of a museum artifact.
