New Brow – The Rise of Underground Art


The Shooting Gallery, Humble Pictures, and The Alternative Café bring you the San Francisco premier of New Brow: The Rise of Underground Art on June 13th at the Roxie Theater. The documentary follows artists, galleries, and collectors who were instrumental in the rise of the New American Art Movement, revealing the raw energy required for the birth of a new genre. Special recognition is given to influences such as underground comix, Kustum Kulture, graffiti, tattoos, skate and surf culture, punk art, and various other California sub-cultures, and the film feaures interviews with Van Arno, Shawn Barber, Gary Basemen, Tim Biskup, Copro/Nason Gallery, Corey Helford Gallery, Ron English, Shepard Fairey, Camille Rose Garcia, Mike Giant, Hi Fructose Gallery, Jim Houser, Silvia Ji, Juxtapoz Magazine, Merry Karnowsky Gallery, Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Travis Louie, Niagara, Roq LaRue, Shag, The Shooting Gallery, Isabel Samaras, Thinkspace Gallery, Yumiko Kayakawa, White Walls Gallery, Robert Williams and more.
