You’ve probably already seen the works of Janette Beckman and just didn’t know it. An award-winning photographer, who was on the ground floor documenting the rise of punk, hip hop and dozens of other subcultures, her work have been used for things as varied as The Police’s Zenyattà Mondatta album cover and MIA’s Kala, to a Yao Ming feature in Nickelodeon magazine. Next month, LA’s project space pays tribute to the artist, hosting ‘Archive of Attitude’, an retrospective showing off some of the most powerful works by Beckman from the 1970s until now. Archive of Attitude will open August 13th, 2010, and close on September 5th.
