There’s a lot to be said for soft-structure bags, I like these “Gypsy sacks” from Italian brand Arch Industry. They feature a handy long strap so you can wear them either at the waist or slung across your back like these models, and have a nice drawstring inner, so your stuff stays securely where it belongs.
