The Pharcyde. Tone LÅc. Masta Ace. Young MC. Brand New Heavies. Mr. Vegas.
And now… Karmaloop.
If your ears have heard anything that even remotely resembles the art of hip hop, then you have no doubt heard of pioneering independent record label Delicious Vinyl, birthed in mid-1980’s Los Angeles by DJs Mike Ross and Matt Dike in a tiny-ass apartment-turned-recording studio. Thanks in part to the quick release of three of the most influential hip hop singles in music history, “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina” by Tone LÅc, along with Young MC’s “Bust a Move,” Delicious Vinyl blew-up almost immediately following it’s inception and continues to push out solid work year after year, despite losing co-founder Matt Dike in 1992. With the label’s 20th anniversary in 2008, the RMXXOLOGY project featured today’s hardest up-and-comers in the indie hip hop community, including Diplo, A-Trak and Aaron LaCrate, re-imagining Delicious Vinyl classics for the dance floors of this generation.
Needless to say, all of us here at Karmaloop are beyond thrilled to be working with such an icon in the industry. In true ‘Loop style, we’re celebrating the partnership with a limited, Karmaloop Kazbah-exclusive partnership for the next month only, selling tees emblazoned with the classic Delicious Vinyl logo for both the dudes and the chicks, as well as The DV Jay Dee T-Shirt, a tribute to the late, great J Dilla, who got his start with Delicious Vinyl producing tracks for The Pharcyde’s severely underrated Labcabincalifornia effort.
We’re loving The DV Gray Tee (above left), featuring the vintage aesthetic rocked by Tone LÅc and his label-mates throughout hip hop’s Golden Era, not to mention The DV Logo Brown Tee for the ladies, a more vintage spin on the timeless logo that had us spittin’ “ILLLLLL!” when the drop came through to the office.
Remember, this is a limited drop for the next month only at Karmaloop’s Kazbah page, so pick up these tees right away, get on the beach strollin’, real high-rollin’, with everything you have is yours and not stolen – and when that girl runs up with something to prove… go on, homeboy, bust that move.
