French artist Lucas Mongiello collects action figures, toys, and strange plastic figurines that he finds at local garage sales and flea markets. After collecting several boxes of the little characters, Mongiello decided to encase and display them in Victorian taxidermist’s domes bestowing upon the modest plastic figures a new sense of importance and relevance within a kind of personal history.
For Mongiello these figures imbue a sense of nostalgia and are a reminder of what existed before Murakami or Toyz. Encased in glass domes, these plastic specimens are a reminder of the cultural history we have all descended from.
