‘Masters of Black in Fashion & Costume’ at Antwerp’s Mode Museum

The Belgian city of Antwerp is rich with culture, including this ‘Masters of Black in Fashion & Costume’ exhibition at the Mode Museum. Black as a color, has long been a source of fear, intrigue and fascination for humanity. When used in clothing it’s a cultural shorthand for somberness, death, and severity. So how has it also become associated with modernity, elegance, and minimalism? Look into black and its complicated relationship with clothing at this exhibit, using examples by Givenchy, Pugh and Demeulemeester. ‘Masters of Black in Fashion & Costume’ is open now, and closes August 8th, 2010.
