London’s White Cube Gallery – on Hoxton Square – is now presenting a brand new exhibition from Ashley Bickerton. Bickerton – now based out of Bali – was a one of the main proponents of the Neo Geo movement of the 1980s in New York. He creates colourful-yet-dystopic portraits, often by painting directly on the skin of models and adorned with Bali-centric artefacts, like garlands, beads, and fruit. The topics of his sculptures – such as a flower pot and a hammerhead shark – are decorated (or destroyed, depending on how you feel) with the detritus of conspicuous consumption. The exhibit runs from April 3rd to 9th.
