Adam Kimmel is a bit of a rebel-prince in the polished world of menswear. Originally trained as an architect, Kimmel takes an approach to men’s clothing that combines an architect’s sensitivity to shape and volume, a craftsman’s attention to detail, and a fifteen year-old’s love of pop culture.
For Spring/Summer 2011, Adam Kimmel took inspiration from hip hop heavy-weight, and self-branding mogul Snoop Dogg. Though you might expect this to lead to a collection of sneakers emblazoned with pot leaves and bling, the collection is actually perfectly restrained.
Kimmel draws less on Mr. Dogg’s ghetto-fabulous appearance, but opts instead to channel his swagger. These shoes are light on adornments but heavy on style. The collection includes canvas chukkas in royal blue, two-tone suede brogues, a pair of high-tops with a velcro band, and a classic pair of suede desert boots.
