Julien Breton aka Kalaam, is a calligrapher, graffiti artist, and photographer based in Nantes, France. Finding inspiration in the beauty and grace of Arabic calligraphy and the work of calligraphers such as Hassan Massoudy, Breton started with traditional Arabic scripts and developed his own unique style.
Breton fuses calligraphy with a graphic graffiti-style aesthetic sensibility and presents it in the form of light art. His works combine elements of calligraphy, graffiti, light art, photography, and performance, at the same time as incorporating views of historic monuments. Breton’s work has great visual impact and weaves together seemingly opposing threads of history, street culture, east, and west.
